SUMO helps Multinational BioPharma Company Deliver a Better Patient Experience

CHALLENGE

Effectively delivering medicine globally requires organizing and aligning several resources to meet the needs of the patient. This is the challenge that a multinational research-based biopharmaceutical company chose to SUMO to help solve. The biopharma was looking for a solution to scheduling appointments with patients for several of their medicines. Patients scheduled appointments to meet or speak with a nurse based on the medicine they are taking or interested in taking for information or guidance.
SOLUTION
The nurses responsible for meeting with patients to distribute the company’s medicines were dealing with a scheduling system that was highly manual with appointments being booked via phone calls and managed with an Excel spreadsheet.

The company came to SUMO Scheduler to discuss their scheduling issues and desire for automating the scheduling process. SUMO was chosen as the software met several of the company’s requirements. As SUMO is a Salesforce-native application, they knew the software would sync with their org. Being HIPAA-compliant, the software also delivered on the security requirements for their patient data.

The biopharma simplified their booking processes by making implementing self-scheduling for every medicine that required patient appointments. SUMO was also able to accommodate variances in appointment lengths. The software assigned a duration to each appointment type while maintaining specific branding guidelines for each medicine.

Additionally, to keep all departments on track within their business processes, a trigger was put in place to create additional records once an appointment is booked. Specific field values are now also assigned based on the particular medicine.

RESULTS

Providing self-scheduling to their patients resulted in positive changes for both the patients and the staff.

It helped the biopharma streamline the appointment process, reduce manual scheduling errors and increase productivity for the nursing staff. New and returning patients are able to make appointments that works with their schedule. They connect quicker to the right nurse for their prescribed medication.

The nurses now benefit from calendar transparency across medicines. The managing multiple schedules with a single tool versus multiple ones. They can view all appointments for every medicine on one calendar and manage those appointments more easily.
